An island proposal
Josh Blumfield and Jessica Liss have been dating since middle school at The Emery/Weiner School. The two often drive down to Galveston Island to stay at the Palisade Palms condos on East Beach. On a recent visit there, the couple spent the day touring the old Galveston Moody Mansion and swimming at the condo pool. Josh told Jessica he had made plans for the couple to dine at Willie G’s. Jessica dressed up in a beautiful white dress her sister had conveniently loaned her. Before dinner, they went on a walk along the beach. Suddenly, he took her hands, got down on one knee, pulled out a small black box and proposed marriage. Through tears, Jessica said, “Nothing would make me happier!” There was another surprise waiting. Their family and friends, including grandparents, great-grandparents, friends, aunts and uncles, all came running over to hug them. After, Josh had arranged for an engagement celebration at the Pelican Club, a historic restaurant in Galveston that Jessica’s late great grandfather, Jesse Castilla, used to manage in his youth.
