Campaigning against cancer
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is encouraging high school students to get involved in the fight against cancer. The new Students of the Year Campaign is gearing up. The campaign is a seven-week initiative in which nominated high school students, or teams of 2-3 students, participate in a fundraising competition to benefit LLS's Texas Gulf Coast Chapter. Candidates raise money in honor of a local teen currently battling a blood cancer. The candidate who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. Daniel Dolan and Nate Newhouse, both seniors at St. Thomas High School, will be participating in the fundraising competition. A few other LLS volunteers include Chelsea Moriarty, Lexie Boudreaux, Lori Huffman and Katie Daily. Apply or nominate someone at www.studentseries.org/txg/students-of-the-year.
