Gwen Emmett, Trini Mendenhall and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett (pictured, from left) visited at the Harris County Protective Services for Children and Adults 50th anniversary luncheon at the Junior League of Houston. Close to 300 supporters attended the “At the Heart of Families” luncheon. Kymora Simone sang a song to kick off the event. Event chairs were Marilyn and George DeMontrond, Ellie and Jack Sweeney, and Frances Dyess. The inaugural effort raised over $165,000. The program was led by Len Cannon of KHOU Channel 11, and Archbishop Joseph Anthony Fiorenza officiated. The honoree, Mendenhall, was recognized for her support and involvement across the city. Special guest was former NFL player Chester Pitts. The new executive director, Joel Levine, recognized retiring executive director George Ford for his service to HCPS. Attending were Dr. Robert Ivany, Marie Bosarge, Janice and Jerry LeVais, Jan Mendenhall, Terry Morales, John Hernandez, Winell Herron, Susan Sarofim, Lesha Elsenbrook, Barbara and Leroy Hermes, and Cyndy Garza Roberts.
