It's been 50 years, and The Briarwood School has been remodeled, brought to the 21st century in technology, and has seen teachers and students come and go. Now it's time for those students to come back, bond and play ball! And they did!
Starting at 6 p.m., the flow never stopped. While the current Varsity Mustangs warmed up, the alumni made their way back to the family bonded community of Briarwood. Ranging from the year Briarwood was established in 1967 to the graduate class of 2016, all came to reconnect with old friends and teachers and to remember what made their time here so special. Drama Department alumni seemed to congregate around the stage, with the rest of the alumni in the stands waiting for the big basketball game to start. Alumni returned from Trinity, Schreiner and Sam Houston universities as well as from jobs in business, education and radio.
Al Farb, a graduate of 2005 and now the voice of the New 93Q, was excited. At halftime, after an introduction by Carole Wills, Head of School, Al gave a speech, reading a declaration from the Mayor of Houston, declaring Jan. 6 as Briarwood Day! As he presented a plaque to Ms. Wills, the stands erupted in applause.
In the end, the alumni won, surprisingly beating the Varsity Mustangs, who, by the way, have a winning record of 9 and 5. Whether a current Briarwood student or graduated alumni, everyone created new bonds and strengthened old ones throughout the eventful evening.
