Award-winning teacher
Each month at Briargrove Elementary School, the teachers and staff anonymously vote for one of their peers to be named Roadrunner of the Month. Teacher Allen Schagene (pictured) was awarded the cape in March. The award is facilitated by the PTO, and the winner is given a goody bag of prizes, including the coveted green cape that they can wear with pride for the month. This is Mr. Schagene’s third year teaching fifth grade at Briargrove. A Kentucky native, he was headed for law school when he was recruited by Teach for America where he spent two years teaching in the Rio Grande Valley until making his way to Houston.
