Happy Friday and happy Cinco de Mayo! The first weekend of May is full of fun and fiestas. Here are a few events around town this weekend:
Cinco de Mayo at the Children’s Museum
Kids can learn about the history of Cinco de Mayo while engaging in fun activities. The Children’s Museum will be celebrating with Mexican-themed entertainment such as amate painting, insect impressions and building maracas and flower crowns.
Cinco de Mayo at Kemah Boardwalk
There will be plenty of fiesta-themed activities happening at Kemah Boardwalk. Participants can take part in a jalapeno-eating contest, visit the photo stations and listen to live Latin music and mariachi bands.
Cinco de Mayo at Historic Market Square
Downtown Houston will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo at the historic Market Square. Guests can listen to live music or visit the neighboring bars and restaurants for celebratory specials.
Cinco de Mayo at Miller Outdoor Theater
Spend Cinco de May listening to the music of Mexico. The Miller Outdoor Theater will be hosting a night of folk music with Tlen-Huicani and the Villalobos Brothers
Galveston Food and Wine Festival
Head to Galveston and clink your glasses for a fun foodie weekend.
Japan Festival
The pleasant Japanese gardens at Hermann Park will be the ite of Houston’s Japan Festival. The festivities include games, martial arts, music, food, anime and cosplay.
MenilFest
Performances, readings and appearances by independent authors and publishers will be happening on the grounds of the Menil Collection. Stop by this Saturday and enjoy this creative get-together.
