New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

Haley Kurisky recently attended the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. She saw Earth, Wind, and Fire and Stevie Wonder perform.

Happy June! It’s the start of summer, and the perfect time to relax and enjoy the slower pace of life. If you’re a student, hopefully you’re enjoying time away from schoolwork, and if you’re a parent, hopefully you’re enjoying time with your kids! There are a lot of fun concerts happening in Houston this June, so why not promote some family bonding and go see one together?

June 3-4: Free Press Summer Fest @ Eleanor Tinsley Park

Free Press is here! Houston’s annual summer music festival will be taking place the first weekend in June, and is featuring acts like Lorde, Charli XCX, and more!

Jun 4: Austin Mahone @ Studio @ Warehouse Live

Austin’s fans are known as “Mahomies,” and this venue will provide an intimate setting for all the Mahomies in Houston.

Jun 6: Texas Music Festival @ UH

A program that starts in June and ends in July, the Texas Music Festival hosts some of the biggest and best conductors, players and other artists related to classical music. There are concerts all throughout the month where you can check out the work of all those involved with the program.

Jun 8: Olivia Newton-John @ Stafford Center

With hits like “You’re the One That I Want” and “Physical,” from Grease, Newton-John has been a stellar performer since the 70s. Listen to her sing some of her old songs at the beautiful Stafford Center venue.

Jun 10: Marina Rocks @ Old Quarter Acoustic Café

Old Quarter is located on the Strand in Galveston. Only an hour away from Houston, this cute music venue is one of my favorite hidden spots on the Island. It has a very intimate setting. Having seen her open up for Joe Ely before, I can contest that Marina puts on a great show, with many of her own hits. Her songs have won her awards at Texas songwriting shows all over the state.

Jun 11: Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold @ NRG Stadium

For the metal and hard rock lovers out there, this show is the show of the summer. Two great bands are teaming up to put on a fantastic show.

Jun 18: Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull @ Toyota Center

This concert is sure to be a party, and will no doubt sell out. If you want to have a fun night, Toyota Center on June 18 is the place to be!

Jun 18: Chicago and the Doobie Brothers @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

If you’re not into pop stuff and are looking for some classic rock action, choose this concert over Enrique and Pitbull. The Doobie Brothers always put on a great live show, and Chicago is a classic act that will do well at Cynthia Woods.

June 22: Future @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

Future is a rapper with hits like “Low Life” and “Mask Off.” For rap fans, this will be the best concert of the month.

Jun 23: Joe Ely @ Old Quarter Acoustic Café

If you read my concert articles, you know Joe Ely is one of my favorites. If you weren’t able to catch him perform in May in Houston, here’s your opportunity! Just like Marina Rocks, this show is located in Galveston as a small, intimate concert hall on the Strand. Definitely worth the drive and a possible night over in Galveston.

Jun 28: Boston and Joan Jett @ Smart Financial Centre

With popular songs like “More Than a Feeling” and “Bad Reputation,” these two artists are set to put on a great show. I last saw Boston when they played at Cynthia Woods, and they put on a great live show. Joan Jett has a bunch of hits and will definitely play her biggest songs.
