On top of the world
Boy Scouts from St. John the Divine’s Troop 55 stand (pictured) at the top of a mountain at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. The boys completed an 11-day, 56-mile trek that included more than 4,000 feet of elevation change. They reached the summit of two of Philmont’s most difficult peaks, Black Mountain and Big Red, and also hiked to the top of Mt. Phillips, which stands at 11,750 feet. During their trek, the scouts enjoyed archery, black-powder rifles, rock climbing and tomahawk throwing. The accomplished mountaineers are (top row, from left) Jonathan Riley, Stone Shannon, Chad Disch, Peter Wade, Austin Wrubel, Luke Poirot, Jeffrey Chen, Karl Poirot and David Shannon; (bottom row, from left) Ryan Disch, Wilson Grant and Lee Riley.
