Eagle Scouts honored
Four scouts from Troop 354 of St. Martin's Episcopal Church earned their Eagle Scouts: (pictured, from left) Binz DeWalch, Wesley House, Robert Hamilton and Jack Tower. Each of the boys completed a community project. Binz led a group to build and paint bookshelves, cubbies and wardrobes for Spaulding for Children's Angel Room. Spaulding helps find adoptive families for children in foster care. The room is used by foster children and families. Wesley designed cubbies and helmet and bat racks for SpringSpirit's four dugouts, which they have not had since the fields were opened in 2012. SpringSpirit Baseball is a nonprofit organization that provides education, sports and Christian-based mentoring programs in Spring Branch. Robert chose to honor St. Martins' Episcopal Church. He built a fence around the school vegetable garden in order to keep pests from damaging (and unattended small children from picking) the growing crop. This project involved several meetings with the church, the school, contractors and others associated with the project. Jack led troop volunteers, friends and family to construct six 6- by 8-foot screen partitions he designed for Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory in southeast Houston for use with its stage. Christo Rey Jesuit serves low-income children.
