Harlem Globetrotters Travel to The Shlenker School
The Shlenker School and Congregation Beth Israel welcomed Moose Weekes and Flip White from the Harlem Globetrotters on Tuesday. The duo from the world-famous basketball team presented the Globetrotters’ “C.H.E.E.R. for Character” program for students, approximately 100 of which are from other schools/programs that were unable to open after Harvey.
One hundred and eighty one students are from Beth Yeshurun Day School (age 15 months through Kindergarten classes), 70 from the Bertha Alyce Early Childhood School from the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center and 65 from the J Kidzone After School Program from the ERJCC. C.H.E.E.R. stands for Cooperation, Healthy mind and body, Effort, Enthusiasm, and Responsibility.
Aryn Bryant, senior marketing director for the Globetrotters and a Shlenker alum herself, coordinated the program after finding out that Shlenker had doubled their student population after welcoming students after Harvey.
Lisa Sachs, director of marketing and communications at The Shlenker School, said the program was a lot of fun for students and teachers alike. “Laughter can be the best medicine.”
