In preparation for Hurricane Harvey, Lori Farris gathered up her chickens and made them comfortable in her laundry room, much to the surprise of her husband, Efisio Farris. Lori looks upon her feathered flock as pets that give back love by laying eggs. Her gardener had another client who flooded and had homeless chickens, so Lori ended up with two feathered flood refugees. It took five days for her own hens to accept the newbies into their coop. The first day, the new ones laid a blue and brown egg within hours as a token of their appreciation.
