Chaired by Esther and Doug Freedman and Candace and Brian Thomas, AVDA’s (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) big annual fundraiser, the Home Safe Home Gala, raised more than $300,000. Pictured is Richard Mithoff (standing with director of development Elizabeth Kennedy) who presented The Joseph D. Jamail Award for Justice to Ronald D. Krist. Mithoff received the award last year for his volunteer efforts. Guests were welcomed into the Crystal Ballroom at The Rice Hotel to food from 12 local chefs and the sounds of the Kashmere Thunder Soul Marching Band. A portion of the proceeds went to the AVDA Victim Relief Fund, which provides emergency financial assistance for AVDA clients impacted by Hurricane Harvey. AVDA’s mission is to end family violence.
