Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday and happy December! This weekend holds lots of fun, festive holiday events, including:
Ring in the holiday season with the 98th Annual Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting this evening, 6-8 p.m. at Hermann Square at City Hall. Look forward to live music, Santa, fireworks, a holiday lighting and more. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Reliant booth benefiting the Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command.
Theta Design Weekend, a three-day home décor shopping weekend and interior design showcase, will take place at George R. Brown Convention Center, Dec. 1-3. You’ll find a huge range of products and gifts, including art, architecture, landscaping, décor, lighting, and textiles along with art walks, designer-led tours, special guest speaker luncheons, and additional events. Proceeds will fund 10 charitable causes.
Go back in time this weekend as Galveston’s historic Strand Street will be transformed into the Victorian London of Charles Dickens. Characters from Dickens novels will walk the streets, and costumed vendors will peddle holiday food, Victorian-inspired crafts, decorations and gifts. (PS: Wear Victorian costume for half-price admission.)
Enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors at Evelyn’s Park on Saturday with Holiday Market in the Park, which includes vendors with a variety of holiday gifts.
Join West U Baptist on Saturday evening for a Christmas Concert Celebration.
Have a sweet day with the family this Sunday at Houston Public Library’s first-ever Candy Cane Castle. Bring your wish list for Santa, enjoy a film screening curated by Aurora Picture Show, decorate cookies and visit with Santa.
Take a photo with Santa at Rice Village on Sunday at the corner of Kelvin and Times Blvd. Enjoy cocoa, mistletoe and a letters to Santa station.
