This past weekend, the Houston Christian boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Episcopal 67-53 in the SPC Championships! Episcopal has been a close rival of Houston Christian for several years and defeated them on the 9th, making this victory that much sweeter.
The game was an intense one! At halftime the score was tied 25-25. During the third quarter the Mustangs began to pick up a lead and maintain it, sometimes leading by almost 20 points. However, even with the lead the game stayed intense until the very end.
Plenty of fans were there to cheer on the Mustangs. The dress-up theme was “Hawaiian” and some seniors brought leis to give out to students. During the semifinals many fans showed up as well, watching the Mustangs defeat St. Mark’s 71-54.
After the game great celebration ensued. It was clear from their facial expressions just how much the victory meant to them. With seven seniors on the team, it was a great way to end their high school basketball careers. Seniors Blake Foley and Miller Kopp will continue playing basketball in college.
The boys were not the only victorious Mustang team this weekend. The girls’ varsity basketball won 3rd place in the same tournament by defeating Fort Worth Country Day 60-44! Swimmer Hadley Krummel also broke a school record for the 100m breaststroke. Last week was a great week to be a Mustang!
