Live Music in Houston This April
Sure, April showers bring May flowers, but what are we supposed to do being cooped up inside during rainy April? Beginning and ending with my pollen allergies, April tends to be a good month of staying inside for me. If you want to try something fun without having to involve the outdoors (for the most part), check out this month’s concert roundup.
Apr. 6: Houston Symphony @ Jones Hall
The Houston Symphony is one of the best symphonies in the world, and it really is a treat to have them. The Symphony is playing many times throughout April, starting with Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, April 6-8.
Apr. 6: Bun B Birthday Celebration @ Mercy Night Club
Bun B, a famous Houston rapper (also a guest professor at Rice U-- did you know?) will be celebrating his birthday this April. You don’t want to miss it! Live music performances are sure to happen.
Apr. 7: “Dreaming of You”: A Tribute to Selena @ The Studio at Warehouse Live
Selena, otherwise known as a Texas treasure. $20 advanced general admission!
Apr. 7: The Molly Ringwalds @ Backyard Dance Hall
The Molly Ringwalds are a super fun ’80s cover band. I have seen them perform many times before, and no matter if you were alive in the ’80s or not, they are still really fun.
Apr. 8: KPFT Birthday Party Benefit @ The Heights Theatre
KPFT is Houston’s local jazz, blues and rock music station. The party will feature lots of live blues, rock and folk acts to perform.
Apr. 16: New World: Bill Murray, Jan Vogler and Friends @ Jones Hall
Bill Murray and Jan Vogler are two famous friends who are very involved with music (especially classical music). Jan Vogler is a cellist, and together with Bill Murray, they have created an artistic show for music, literature and language alike.
Apr. 19: Foo Fighters and The Struts @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Dave Grohl is a serious legend, and Foo Fighters have a cult following, so if you’re planning on going to this show, you’ve probably known for a while. The Struts are a cool band with fun hit “Kiss This.”
Apr. 19: The Revivalists @ House of Blues
The Revivalists are a 7-piece rock band that came together in NOLA. They have played before at Jazz Fest in Louisiana, and other festivals.
Apr. 21: 5 Seconds of Summer @ House of Blues
5SOS, who once toured with 1D (RIP) are back again with their own tour, this time playing smaller venues. Come see the band that once sold out arenas, but up close!
Apr. 21: H-Town ’90s Block Party @ Smart Financial Centre
Some of your favorite ’90s performers, including Keith Sweat and Guy and Teddy Riley will be headlining this concert/party!
Apr. 24: Weird Al Yankovic @ Stafford Center
Weird Al is a satirist known for making comedic songs and spoofs of popular songs. Special guest Emo Philips will be joining him.
Apr. 25: HAIM @ Revention Center
HAIM, a sister group who call Taylor Swift a good friend, is performing this April! Their biggest song is “The Wire,” but they recently released a new album that is really fun.
Apr. 28: Breathe Carolina @ Stereo Live Houston
Breathe Carolina is an electronic music group that produced the popular hit “Blackout” in 2011. Since then, they have released lots of new music.
Apr. 28-29: P!nk @ Toyota Center
P!nk is back! This is one of the biggest shows this month, so if you’re looking for lots of company at a show, this might be the best one to go to. She is known for putting on crazy live performances, so this one will be a good one.
