Live Music in Houston This May
Ahh, May. This is one of the busiest months of the year for most people, with graduations, the end of school and summer preparations. If you have time to relax, check out one (or two!) of the amazing concerts happening right here in Houston this month.
May 1: Jack White @ Revention Music Center
Jack White recently performed as the music guest on SNL. He is known for being a member of rock band The White Stripes and has had a successful solo career.
May 2: Vance Joy @ Revention Music Center
Remember the song “Riptide” that was popular a few years ago? You have Vance Joy and his sweet-sounding voice to thank for that. Word on the street is that his recent shows have been amazing, so I highly recommend this one.
May 4: Juanes @ Smart Financial Centre
Juanes is a Colombian singer who has won multiple Grammy awards. He is internationally famous and it is a huge treat to have him in Houston.
May 5: Echosmith @ White Oak Music Hall Upstairs
Echosmith is known for their hit “Cool Kids,” which was popular a few years ago.
May 5: Cinco de Mayo @ Downtown Houston
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo downtown with this updated list of all the participating venues and parties:
May 5: Cinco de Mayo @ Miller Outdoor Theatre
Join in the Cinco de Mayo festivities with a performance from Mariachi Los Camperos under the stars!
May 6: JMBLYA Fest @ Sam Houston Race Park
Music festival featuring J. Cole, Migos, and more. Check it out on my list of must-go festivals here.
May 8: Hayley Kiyoko @ House of Blues
Hayley Kiyoko is one of my favorite new artists, with hits like “Curious” and “Feelings.” This will be a fun, girl-empowering show.
May 11: Wilderado @ The Studio at Warehouse Live
I saw Wilderado when they opened for Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie last year at Smart Financial Centre, and I was very pleasantly surprised! They are a cool alt/rock band, and the band members are super nice and down to earth.
May 12: Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Come see some rock legends perform live! I saw Bad Company perform at Cynthia Woods a few years ago and it was great.
May 17: Kenny Chesney @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Kenny is a country God, so this should already be marked on every Houston country fan’s calendar.
May 18: Dave Matthews Band @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Dave Matthews Band is known for their chill vibe and cool live shows. They have a new album coming out this summer, so perhaps they will play some songs off the new album at this show!
May 18: X Ambassadors @ House of Blues
You might not know the X Ambassadors by name, but you’ve definitely heard some of their songs, including “Renegade” (think Jeep commercial) and “Unsteady.”
May 18: Marc Cohn @ The Heights Theater
Marc Cohn is the voice behind the beautiful song, “Walking in Memphis.” If you like the blues or rock, you’ll be a fan. He’s a Grammy award winner, too!
May 18: Khalid @ Smart Financial Centre
Khalid is gaining popularity by the day, with big starts like Lea Michele calling themselves fans. Check him out before his concert tickets get a lot more expensive.
May 19: Kendrick Lamar, SZA, etc. @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Various top rappers are performing on the 19th at Cynthia Woods. If you’re a fan, this is a great venue, and the weather will likely be phenomenal.
May 23: Justin Timberlake @ Toyota Center
Fresh off of performing at the Super Bowl, JT is back and at his prime. Catch him now while he’s at his most famous! He plays again at Toyota Center on the 25th.
May 24: Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers @ Smart Financial Centre
If you’re looking for great live music and rock sounds, this will be a wonderful show. These bands complement each other well and will sounds great at Smart Financial, which is known for its amazing acoustics.
