Live Music in Houston This June
With June begins the dog days of summer, where the heat is almost unbearable and you’re almost (don’t admit it!) running out of things to do. Spend time outside in a way that doesn’t make you want to have a heat stroke - Cynthia Woods is having lots of great shows this month. Bring a blanket and sit under the cool fans on the lawn. I suggest going out to eat beforehand - there are some cute restaurants in the Woodlands near the Pavilion!
Jun 2: Paul Simon @ Toyota Center
This is Simon’s “Farewell Tour,” so if you’ve ever wanted to see him in concert, this is the time to do it!! He will be playing all the hits from his long music career.
Jun 2: Krewella @ Stereo Live
Krewella is an EDM band consisting of a sister duo! They’re best known for their 2014 hit Alive.
Jun 3: Poison and Cheap Trick @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
If you like rock/hair bands from the ‘80s, this is the show for you! Two rock greats in one evening.
Jun 5: Dua Lipa @ Revention Music Center
Dua Lip is pop music’s “it” girl right now, with hits like IDGAF and New Rules. This concert will be super fun and filled with top hits.
Jun 7: Rosie Flores with The Octanes @ Discovery Green
Every Thursday during June, Discovery Green is hosting a concert series featuring some amazing (usually Texas-centric) acts. Concerts go from 7-9 p.m. and include an opening act. Bring a blanket or a folding chair. I’ve been to a few in the past and they were really fun and good for all ages.
Jun 7: Harry Styles @ Toyota Center
Former member of 1D, Harry Styles has embarked on quite a successful solo career. His recent shows have gotten good reviews, and he features an awesome opening act (pop/country singer Kacey Musgraves).
Jun 9: Shania Twain @ Toyota Center
Shania Twain is a country singer hailing from Canada with a cult following. This is her first show at Toyota Center since 2003!
Jun 9: Aly & AJ @ The Bronze Peacock at House of Blues
Remember Aly and AJ from their Disney Channel years? Potential Breakup Song? If you’re a college or high school student looking for a throwback, this might be the show for you.
Jun 10: Maroon 5 @ Toyota Center
If you’re interested in Maroon 5, you’ve probably had these tickets for weeks. If you’re still interested, there are still some great seats left. Opening act is new and popular artist Julia Michaels, who sings Issues.
Jun 14: John Doe with VODI @ Discovery Green
John Doe is described as an “Americana punk legend,” and is well-known regionally.
Jun 15: Post Malone @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Post Malone has had lots of new songs in the top rap charts, including I Fall Apart and Rockstar. I’ve never seen a rap concert at Cynthia Woods, but if I had to guess, the energy at this venue should be fun. Fun fact: Post Malone is from Texas!
Jun 20: Jesse McCartney @ House of Blues
No one my age can forget Beautiful Soul by Jesse McCartney. Or Leavin or How Do You Sleep?. Relive the early 2000s at this show!
Jun 20: Michael Che and Cipha Sounds @ White Oak Music Hall
Michael Che is a comedian best known for his role as one of the anchors of Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update. He will be doing a stand-up routine. This should be really fun - I might go myself!
Jun 21: Ruthie Foster with The Peterson Brothers @ Discovery Green
The theme of this concert is “rockin’ Americana blues.” Don’t forget your lawn chairs!
Jun 23: Kesha and Macklemore @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Kesha has returned to touring after her legal battle with producer Dr. Luke. She’s teaming up with Macklemore for this tour. They recently released a song together, titled Good Old Days.
Jun 28: Dale Watson with Celine Lee @ Discovery Green
This concert’s theme is “old school Texas roots music.” Dale Watson is a country singer who hails from Austin.
Jun 29: Weezer @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Weezer is joined by The Pixies and The Wombats at the Pavilion for some '90s rock sounds.
Jun 30: REO Speedwagon and Chicago @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Don’t miss these classic rock icons for a great show to close out June. If you’re from Illinois, you definitely have to be there - both these bands were formed in Illinois in the '60s!
