Bringing their A game
The Emery/Weiner School’s eighth-grade volleyball A-team (pictured) is in full force this season. After devoting the end of their summer break to pre-season practice, the girls are taking on opponents from all over Houston. Many of the players are trying out new positions this year, and everyone is putting in the effort. Outsides Sophie Halperin and Jordan Blum are poised to lead the way in serves and attacks, while middle Chloe Heyl is quick on her feet and brings lots of energy to the team. On defense, newcomer Blythe Mogil is making a strong showing on the back row. Coach Angie Gubitz is proud of the way the girls balance a competitive spirit with having fun and enjoying the game. A-team players are (front row, from left) Jenna Paull, Ellen Weinstein, Blythe Mogil, Sara Wolf; (back row, from left) Maya Friedberg, Ava Trachtenberg, Elsa Koenig, Noa Barkan, Chloe Heyl, Sophie Halperin, Ana Benveniste and coach Angie Gubitz. Not pictured: Jordan Blum.
