Happy Friday! Can you believe it’s almost December? Neither can we. Check out these weekend events to kick off the month with some holiday fun!
99th Annual Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting Presented by Reliant
Mayor Sylvester Turner will kick off the holiday season at the 99th Annual Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting Presented by Reliant. The two-hour event is free and open to the whole family, and it includes music, fireworks, and the much-anticipated lighting of the 65-foot holiday tree. Alisan Porter, winner of The Voice Season 10, will headline this year’s event.
Free the Captives Christmas Market
Get ahead on your Christmas shopping this weekend at the 6th Annual Christmas Market hosted by Free the Captives, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the exploitation and trafficking of Houston’s youth. Get your shopping done while donating to a good cause - 15 percent of purchases will benefit Free the Captives’ human trafficking program.
Dickens on the Strand Festival
Enjoy non-stop entertainment at this weekend’s Dickens on the Strand festival, an annual event highlighting downtown Galveston’s Victorian-era architecture alongside the sights and sounds of Charles Dickens’ work. The festival includes strolling carolers, roving musicians, bagpipers and jugglers as entertainment as well as street stalls with holiday food and drink. Keep an eye out for three of Charles Dickins’ descendants who will be attending many of the weekend events.
John Daugherty, Realtors' 32nd Annual Photos with Santa
John Daugherty, Realtors is hosting its annual photos with Santa event this Saturday at multiple Houston-area locations. Bring your family and pets to take a photo with Santa in front of a backdrop of Houston’s most picturesque neighborhoods. Photos are offered at no cost and will be available to download in time for holiday cards and letters.
7th Annual Southside Place Winter Wonderland Carnival
Join your neighbors and friends outside the Southside Clubhouse for the 7th Annual Southside Place Winter Wonderland Carnival. Have fun playing carnival games, climbing on inflatables, riding a mechanical bull, scaling a huge rock-climbing wall and playing in snow, all while raising money for a great cause - all proceeds go directly towards improving Fire Truck Park and the surrounding grounds. Also enjoy coffee and donuts, pizza and more!
Check out the work of more than 30 Texas-based vendors at Holiday in the Park, a shopping experience co-organized by Pop Shop America and the Houston Downtown Management District. You can expect a DIY crafting station, a hot chocolate bar, holiday selfie stations, all-day mimosas, music from DJ Fredster, Texas’s largest mistletoe and more!
Grab your family and friends and come out to Levy Park for a two-day holiday festival filled with music, crafts, and shopping. Both days have lineups of fun activities and entertainment including live musical performances, a dog ugly sweater contest, a DIY craft station and a photobooth.
Enjoy a special performance of Handel’s Messiah at the West University Baptist Church’s Christmas Concert Celebration. The show features conductor Thomas Jaber, The Kinetic Ensemble, The West U Baptist Choir as well as several soloists.
Chanukah at Discovery Green Houston
Celebrate Chanukah this weekend at Discovery Green with arts and crafts, face painting, a balloon artist, ice menorah, Judah the Maccabee and ice skating. Food from Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar will be available for purchase. Pre-order your event tickets online to receive a discount!
The Shul of Bellaire is hosting a Chanukah Festival this Sunday at the Bellaire Town Square. The event features award-winning magician, illusionist and comedian John O'Bryant and includes a delicious dinner buffet, levitating latkes and disappearing donuts, and more!
