At this time in Emery sports, the transition from fall sports to winter sports has come. As volleyball season ends, many look to continue their student-athlete journey onto basketball.
The girls varsity basketball team is under new leadership this year. Head coach of the boys varsity team, Patrick Pellerin, has assumed the head coaching duties of the girls varsity team as well. Senior Abby Navon explained that Pellerin “knows the game so well” and that he could really help the girls basketball program as a whole.
On Monday, the varsity girls beat their well-known rivals the Robert M. Beren Academy Stars 37-32 in a close game. This was a step forward because their matchups will only get harder as the season progresses, facing teams like Second Baptist and Lutheran South. Today, the girls won against Providence Classical School and possess a record of 2-1 with an additional scrimmage win against Awty International School.
The varsity girls are off to a good start and the whole school is rallying behind them.
