When Blake Schafman, a graduate of Bellaire High School, met his wife, Renee Weissend, it was like a millennial romance novel – they were matched in an “Uber Pool” carpool on the ride-sharing app. At the time, both Blake and Renee were living in San Francisco. Renee graduated from Bucknell University, where she played D1 tennis. She worked in financial services, first in New York and then San Francisco. Blake attended The University of Texas at Austin and worked in public accounting as a CPA. Their romantic first encounter, where they first swooned over each other, propelled their relationship. They call themselves “The Swoonies.” They married in Pittsford, NY, Renee’s hometown, ending the night with a silent disco after-party in their hotel suite. Pictured are the wedding party: (from left) Julie Woolverton, Renee Signore, Cassie Schafman, Teresa Weissend, Erica Weissend, Ariana Weissend, the bride, the groom, Andrew Burns, Chris Minifee, Ben Ribe, Trace Knoblauch, Tyler Duffey and Bijan Deghani. All six of Blake’s groomsman also attended Bellaire High School – he met most through baseball – and graduated in 2009.
