Where pizza meets strudel
In a part of Italy that used to be in Austria is the popular ski resort Val Gardena, in the stunning Italian Dolomites. Claire and Dick Brooks with the 70+ Ski Club enjoyed the town Selva, where one might see lederhosen-wearing hotel staff and find dumplings from the Tyrolean culture on the menu but plenty of Italian food as well. They were amazed to see a mummy of a man displayed, with all the scientific research on him, in an archeology museum in Bolzano. It did not dissuade them from six-course meals every night. This is Dick's fourth trip with 70+, which has 3,000 members, some well over 80 years old. This was Claire’s first trip with them, as she prefers cross country. While she is always upbeat, she is not downhill-driven.
