Duchesne Academy has five Sacred Heart Goals that we strive to live by. This week, the Drama Department put two of them into practice: “a social awareness which impels to action” and “the building of community as a Christian value.”
The all-school musical is a time-honored event and, this year, the students are performing A Year in the Life of Frog and Toad. However, this event is not only an opportunity to support the students and the Drama Department, but it is also a chance to give back.
Each night, the concession stand is run by a different club or student group fundraising for a cause. This year, the organizations participating are the Iron Plaid Robotics team, the Duchesne Thespian Society and St. Jude’s Hospital. Not only does the stand allow students the opportunity to organize and run a small business, but it also allows them to be involved and support their cause through fundraising.
Ms. Michelle Britton, the Upper School Drama teacher, said that “the theater program has spearheaded providing opportunities for groups to fundraise through our shows. This includes the all-school musical, and all high school and advanced theater productions. We are happy to offer this event as a fundraising opportunity, and concessions are a great additional way to celebrate our audiences and make it fun for them.”
Ayza Musharrif, the sophomore leading the St. Jude’s fundraiser, said, “I think letting students run concessions at the school play is a great way to get students involved in raising funds for their own clubs and organizations. I am raising money for St. Jude’s, and selling concessions will really help with fundraising.”
Throughout the year, we have many opportunities to practice our Sacred Heart Goals. This event is just one way we come together to both unite and serve the community.
