Shine on
The nonprofit Daya hosted its annual gala “Shine: Celebrating the Light of Survivors.” About 600 attended the event at the Marriott Town Center in Sugar Land, and more than $350,000 was raised. Daya promotes healthy family relationships in the South-Asian community, with counseling, referrals, legal advocacy, and financial support to women and children affected by family violence and sexual assault. Human rights advocate and filmmaker Leslee Udwin, who was voted No. 2 Most Impactful Woman of 2015 by The New York Times, was keynote speaker. Honorary chairs were Sandhya and Naresh Sabhnani and Salma and Riaz Siddiqi; co-chairs were Aparna Asthana, Shazma Matin and Annu Naik.
