Event Roundup: Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day Weekend is ahead, and there are plenty of opportunities to attend events honoring veterans who have served our country. Here, we’ve rounded up some special Memorial Day ceremonies, along with other family-friendly and 21+ events for you to enjoy if you’re staying in Houston for the long weekend.
Family-Friendly Events
Texas Children’s Hospital Presents Art in the Park
Honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces by creating and wearing your own patriotic safety pin creation at this event at Evelyn’s Park. The event takes place Saturday morning and is free and open to the public.
Cistern Historical Tours
Learn about the architecture of this unique space and the history of Houston’s water system through a historical tour of The Cistern. Tours take place weekly on Thursdays and Fridays every half hour from 1:00-5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays every half hour from 11:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Ben Jackson: Magic, Music & Mayhem at the Houston Museum of Natural Science
Get ready to be blown away by native Houstonian Ben Jackson as he performs a 90-minute magic show at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Ben has performed on NBC’s Today Show with David Copperfield, and he’s gained international recognition for his unbelievable performances.
Dancin in the Street Motown and More Revue
Enjoy the sounds of classic Motown hits at Miller Outdoor Theatre this weekend, with an ensemble of soul singers, funky dancers and the Bacement Soul Orchestra! Free tickets are available (4 per person) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Astros Games
Cheer on the Houston Astros as they challenge the Boston Red Sox in three games at Minute Maid this weekend! Games are Friday at 7:15 p.m., Saturday at 6:15 p.m. and Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

Sarah Grace and the Soul Performance
Enjoy a live performance of band Sarah Grace and the Soul at the Mucky Duck on Friday night! Sarah Grace is a native Houstonian and student at HSPVA who made it all the way to the Top 10 on NBC’s The Voice Season 15. Her band combines powerful vocals and rootsy musicianship to create their own original sound.
Chocolate and Art Show
You can’t go wrong with chocolate and art! Indulge in some of Houston’s finest emerging artists, photographers and creators while enjoying free chocolate. There will also be live music, body painting, face-painting and portrait sessions.
A Trip to the Candy Factory
Take a trip to the candy factor at this interactive Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory themed pop-up open all weekend long. From specialized drinks to a 3D photobooth, there are plenty of photo-worthy experiences you’ll have here! Note that those under 21 are allowed between the hours of 12-6: p.m., but they must be accompanied by an adult.
Daybreak Day and Pool Party
Kick off your summer with an exciting day party featuring live music from various DJs, food from Chick-fil-A, and Ciroq snow cones. Entry is free if you arrive before 4:00 p.m.!
Memorial Day Ceremonies:
Houston National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony
Honor fallen servicemen and women at the Houston National Cemetery, a VA cemetery. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and will include an address by a native Texan of rank along with a parade of colors and the laying of memorial wreaths.
Memorial Day Remembrance
Join George Ranch Historical Park for an exploration of the roots of Memorial Day! You can participate in a decoration ceremony, help clean the graves of the family members who served in military conflicts and eat a special USO-inspired Memorial Day lunch with your family at the 1930s George Ranch House.
Memorial Day Ceremony Sugar Land
Join the Sugar Land community for its 10th annual Memorial Day Ceremony, honoring veterans for their service to our country. There will be educational and commemorative activities, patriotic music, a flag ceremony military exhibits and more.
Memorial Day Bash at Bellaire Town Square
Celebrate Memorial Day with the Bellaire community on Monday evening with relay races, games and more at the Aquatic Center!
