Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend

Happy Friday! Check out these exciting events happening around town this weekend. It’s been a rainy week, and more storms are on the horizon, so be sure to check the individual event websites for weather-related updates. 

Comicpalooza 
Experience Texas’ largest entertainment and pop culture event this weekend at the George R. Brown Convention Center, where guests including Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones will take center stage at Comicpalooza. The weekend-long event includes more than 1,000 hours of diverse, interactive programming spanning Comic Books, Gaming, Films, Anime, Cosplay and more. 

NBA Western Conference Semifinals: Rockets v Warriors 
Support the Houston Rockets in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. The Rockets are currently down 2-3 to the Warriors, so they need to clinch a win to continue on to Game 7! Buy tickets to watch the game live at Toyota Center or tune in to ESPN at 8:00 P.p.m. to watch from your home. 

Newspring Student Art Auction
Kick off your weekend by supporting student artwork at the Newspring Student Art Auction, where original paintings and 3-dimensional designs created by middle and high school students from Spring Branch will be auctioned off. Held at the A.D. Players George Theater, the auction provides an opportunity to support young, talented artists! Read more about Newspring here. 

Market Square Park Summer Concert
Enjoy an evening of live music in the park at Market Square Park’s inaugural summer concert on Friday evening. The free event will be headlined by the Austin-based soul funk band Tomar and the FCs, with an opening set by Kalu and the Electric Joint.

Sawyer Yards Second Saturday 
Wander through Sawyer Yards’ six studio buildings on Saturday to discover a selection of painting, sculpture, photography and more. The open studio event also includes an outdoor market, so this could be the perfect spot to buy that last-minute Mother’s Day gift!

Bellaire New Home Showcase 
Visit four Bellaire homes and discover the finest level of craftsmanship and design elements during the 30th annual Bellaire New Home Showcase, happening on Saturday and Sunday. Ticket sales benefit The Friends of the Bellaire Library and Bellaire Police & Fire Foundation. 

Mother’s Day at Bayou Bend
Bring the special women in your life for an afternoon of nature, beauty, and art at beautiful Bayou Bend. On Mother’s Day, moms and grandmothers receive free admission and complimentary lemonade and cookies. The afternoon also features an outdoor performance by harpist Hope Cowan!
