Editor's Note - August 2019
She was sitting next to me at the hair salon. I knew about her son-in-law’s recent life-changing accident, but I wasn’t sure it was appropriate for me to mention it. She appeared relaxed and happy, and I didn’t want to cause any stress. But I recalled something I learned from a cancer survivor in a Buzz article that’s stuck with me: It’s always okay to say something. So, I said to Leslie Bormaster, “I am so sorry to hear about your son-in-law.” Leslie immediately put me at ease and told me about his incredible, positive attitude. Leslie and her entire family have that effect on everyone they meet. Her daughter, Kim, a Special Olympics athlete, inherited that bright Leslie smile and strength. This month, Pooja Salhotra captures this special family’s contagious support for each other and uplifting spirit. We know they will inspire you, too. [email protected]
