Acts of kindness

After Tropical Storm Imelda hit Houston and surrounding areas, many neighbors showed acts of kindness to help neighbors in need - including total strangers.

On Thurs., Sept. 19, around 10 p.m., while everyone was still recovering from a crazy day of Tropical Storm Imelda sneaking into Houston and dumping buckets of rain in record time and leaving city streets flooded and impassable once again, a Buzz-area resident posted a touching message on the Moms and Ladies of Southwest Houston Facebook group:

Today a woman flooded out her car on our street. A neighbor and I both tried to offer her a safe, dry home to come into. She stayed in her car trying to contact people. She wasn’t in danger but I felt so sorry for her out there. Someone finally came to get her.

Much later she returned with a friend to try to retrieve the car.  I walked out to check on them and she handed me the following note. She wrote one for both my neighbor and I.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for your willingness to help a complete stranger. Your thoughtfulness is a gift that I will treasure forever. May God bless you and your family daily.

What a beautiful person she is. If she’s in this group…please come by any time!

The post has received more than 400 likes and numerous comments.

Everyone loved the letter.

I love that you posted this. Kindness like yours means so much whether it be a situation like today or just a random act that brightens someone’s day in even in the most normal of circumstances. It seems like the woman you helped has a ton of kindness in her heart as well. This was a great last thing to read before I go to sleep.Thank you for sharing.

Will this neighbor ever be reunited with the stranded motorist? One possible way to locate the writer is seeing if anyone recognizes her lovely and unique handwriting. But perhaps the best way to locate her is to remember her generous acts of kindness, grateful words and thoughtful gestures the next time life leaves you or someone around you stranded. You might be pleasantly surprised that it just might be you who will be the mystery person that people are happily posting about.
