Sophomores (from left) Eron Lott and Olivia Novak dress mismatched to Thursday’s theme of “Thrift Shop.”
Homecoming at Emery is planned every year by its student-led booster club. Every first Monday of the month, we have an exciting activity in our assembly planned by EBC. As Blue Monday officer on the EBC board, I’m in charge of each activity we do on those Mondays.
For the first Blue Monday, we played the 5 Second Rule game (that was music themed) to end it with the Homecoming breakout! We called people up on stage to name songs from albums or musicals in under five seconds. After a few rounds went by, we released our video and the homecoming theme. The theme was “We Got the Beat!”
Every day for spirit week was a song and an outfit to correspond to that song. Monday was “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars, and people were to dress in pjs. Everyone looked super comfortable that day. Tuesday was “Thriller” by Micheal Jackson, where students and teachers dressed in Halloween costumes. The funniest costume I saw was someone dressed as a cow! Wednesday was “Let’s get Physical” by Body Talk Trip, and everyone dressed in workout gear! Some students were even walking to class lifting weights! Thursday was “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore, and people dressed in mismatched clothing. There were some wacky outfits that day! Lastly, Friday was to the theme of the song “our house” by Flo Rida and people dressed up with Emery spirit in blue white and silver.
Each day during spirit week, the best dressed got a free homecoming T-shirt! Getting a prize definitely encourage students to dress very spirited that week! The last day there was a final pep rally before the big game where the cheerleaders performed their dance and the whole school came together to play games with the football team and faculty. This spirit week got everyone excited and ready for the big homecoming game and dance!
