The Jags huddle up and talk game strategy before they begin their game against Brazosport Christian.
Emery’s varsity football team is undefeated so far as it continues to steamroll teams standing in its path. The football team has gotten everyone excited and attracted a lot of attention. The week before Emery’s annual homecoming, the booster club promoted the team and encouraged students to come to the football game wearing Hawaiian attire. Many students and teachers showed up in their best gear to support their undefeated varsity team. As students, parents, and teachers cheered on, the Jags kept rallying.
On Sept. 20, they managed to defeat Brazosport Christian 45-0, ending the game in three quarters. Senior captain and center Connor Koenig scored a touchdown, along with a few tackles on the defensive end. “The team is really coming along, and we knew we had a chance to have an undefeated season from the start,” Koenig said.
Emery also promotes spirit and student involvement in sports through Jag Hype, a student-led group that endorses athletes and posts on social media about games and scores. Before each game day, Jag Hype does a bit called “A Day in the Life” where they elect someone from the football team or cheer team to post stories on the official Instagram about what they do to prepare for game days. Koenig and senior cheer captain Jadyn Grossman were able to post about their eating habits and daily routines before the games. Jag Hype, along with the booster club, ensures that all students know about upcoming games and show their school spirit.
