Clubs and other extracurricular activities have officially become active at Emery Weiner. We have the poker club, chess club, EDC, the Tikkun Olam club and many other great clubs. Clubs are a great way for students to find new interests, make many new relationships with new friends or teammates, and they have an opportunity to make relationships with teachers that they may have had in the past, have in the current day, or will learn with him/her in the future.
SGA, Student Government Associates, has designed a tournament for kids that enjoy playing video games. Specifically, the tournament, Mario Kart SGA tournament, is obviously for students who enjoy playing Mario Kart in their freetime. Although, they can’t just enjoy playing Mario Kart, they also have to actually be good at the game in order to win the tournament.
Peter Berry, a competitor in the tournament, said "The tournament is loads of fun and gives me an opportunity to meet people with the same interest that I have. I obviously have those friends in my grade who I’ve known for so long, but this club gives me the opportunity to meet kids from other grades and attempt to defeat them in Mario Kart. This is something I really find pleasure in, and I’m really happy that I get to enjoy this hobby with other people at school."
The tournament is actually still occurring as we speak and will end somewhat soon. The finals for the Mario Kart game will actually be shown during Ma’amad and will be a very exciting match that you really don’t want to miss out on if you attend Emery Weiner. This will most likely end up being an annual tournament for students at Emery Weiner as kids like Peter Berry, Cullen Baker, and Max McKee have reported that they love this club and are having a lot of fun with it.
