In bloom
Friends and supporters of the Houston Botanic Garden filled the River Oaks Country Club ballroom for the annual Botanical Beginnings Luncheon. The event was chaired by the Stude sisters, (pictured, from left) Elisa Pye and Isabel Lummis, in honor of their mother, Anita Stude, and raised a record-breaking $630,000 in operating support for the Garden. In keeping with the luncheon’s theme, Pathway for Pollinators, guest speaker Lauren Simpson, a local attorney who has transformed her yard into a pollinator-friendly certified wildlife habitat, discussed environmental challenges and tips for home gardeners. The garden will open in fall 2020 at the former 132-acre Glenbrook Golf Course, across Interstate 45 from Hobby Airport. See hbg.org.
