Surprise celebration

Mindy Schultz and Kevin Tofsky met during their high school days. Although Mindy attended Bellaire High School and Kevin was a student at Episcopal High School, they were both involved in B’Nai Brith Youth Organization. Kevin was the “beau” of Mindy’s BBYO chapter. In 2014, they found themselves at the same party, where Kevin asked if Mindy would want to grab drinks one day. Fast forward to December 2019. Kevin asked Mindy to go to Austin to celebrate a family friend’s birthday. It happened to be her dad’s birthday the following day, but her dad said he was happy to celebrate once the two were back in town. At the party in Austin, Kevin claimed he was sleepy, and they went back to the hotel for a late dinner. They sat outdoors by the lake and a bonfire at the Four Seasons Austin, where he popped the question. Mindy was surprised to hear that everyone at the party was in on the plan and wanted to celebrate with the couple, along with their parents, Elyse and Howard Schultz and Neil and Pam Tofsky, and additional close friends from Houston, at a nearby bar. Mindy’s dad said it was his best birthday ever.
