Women in science
Nearly 40 girls from Bellaire High School spent their lunch period learning from women in STEM careers. Speakers included Nagma Meharali from Microsoft TEALS and Rice University graduate student Vanessa Espinoza. Held during HISD's 12 Days of Code, this student-led Women in STEM Summit was sponsored by AP Chemistry teacher Dr. Sossiena Sanders and organized by students Annie and Shirley Zhu, who were part of the four-student Bellaire team who developed the Fresh Hub app for smartphones. Pictured are (back row, from left) Vanessa Espinoza, Nagma Meharali, Grace Wang, Jennie Yuan, Christina Chen, Zoe Du; (middle row, from left) Annie Zhu, Shirley Zhu, Alicia Xia; (front row, from left) Andrea Conley, Smriti Paudel and Abigail Burns.
