Opening day to remember
The Bellaire Little League (BLL) National League Nationals team (pictured) storms the field after running through a giant inflatable cardinal at the Opening Day ceremony. The celebration kicked off the 2020 spring baseball season, which is now on hold because of the global pandemic. The Opening Day celebration honored more than 500 players representing 50 teams. As the teams were introduced, they were cheered on by Bellaire High School cheerleaders and varsity baseball players. Emery/Weiner School senior and college basketball recruit Peter Berry spoke to the crowd, followed by Dominic D’Ambra throwing the first pitch to Colton Rich. The crowd then turned their attention to the annual moms’ softball team and home run derby. The National League Nationals are Zachary Chen, Nickolas Moga, Charlie Dabney, Luke Pridgen, Maxwell Wu, Matthew Yip, Harrison Blashki, Ashton Ray, Asher Wilson, Evan Zager and Rubaine Singh.
