High-school sweethearts say 'I do'
After meeting as kids at Sunday school, and officially beginning dating in their senior year at Bellaire High School, Matthew Abrahams and Holli Wertheimer (pictured) made it official. The couple was married in an intimate, family ceremony that included Mindy and Miles Wertheimer, the bride’s parents, and Cindy and Jeff Abrahams, the groom’s parents. Rabbi Brian Strauss of Congregation Beth Yeshurun officiated in the Abrahams’ backyard. During the ceremony, Rabbi Strauss told the guests that Holli and Matthew’s prenuptial counseling didn’t take long, because he already knew everything he needed by reading about the couple in a feature story in The Bellaire Buzz (Meant to Be: From high school to forever, by Pooja Salhotra). After they said “I do,” the new couple had a drive-by, New Orleans-style Second Line parade down Valerie Street followed by a reception at the Abrahams’ home, planned by Kelly Balfour. Guests danced under lighted trees in the backyard and toasted Matt’s grandparents, who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary the following day.
