Looking for something to keep you busy over the summer? I love playing games, so here are some of my favorites.
Gin Rummy is a great game for two or three people. It’s more luck than skill, but still very fun. It can be suspenseful because you never know when somebody is going to call gin or if the one card you need will come up.
I like the quickness of Boggle and how you have to think on your feet! The words you choose also must be good words because if someone else has the same word as you, it doesn’t count.
Codenames is a great game to play as a family. It requires you to work as a team and read between the lines. It can also make you think about things from a different perspective. But be warned – it can lead to controversy.
When I first started playing Scrabble, I would lose to my dad every time. But now I’m much better! I've even beaten him a couple of times. Scrabble is also a great way to improve your vocabulary.
Hearts is a great family card game because you need four people. It took a little while to get the hang of it, but now it’s a lot of fun. It’s always fun seeing who will get the queen of spades (the worst card) and who will come out on top.
Taboo is a ton of fun with family. I like buzzing the other team and calling them out when they say one of the forbidden words. Giving clues is also exciting and makes you think quickly while being cautious about what you say.
Poker is also a combination of skill and luck. It teaches you how to calculate odds. Anything can happen, and a hand that looks horrible at first can end up beating a great one. Although sometimes it can be frustrating when you lose a big hand or get bad cards, when you do win it’s worth it.
