The Kolter PTO at The Grassroom

The Kolter PTO at The Grassroom

The Kolter Elementary community is excited to bring to life “The Grassroom,” an outdoor learning space for their newly constructed campus. The original award-winning Kolter garden was a valued part of students’ learning experiences prior to the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. Kolter parent and garden volunteer Pilar Hernandez helped come up with the inspiration for the new layout, and parent Rysse Goldfarb chaired the Kolter Grassroom Committee. The outdoor space will ultimately include a garden, prairie, pond, orchard, butterfly garden, and an outdoor, covered classroom. The Kolter PTO is selling multicolor pavers to line the walkway around the garden with the hope of spreading messages from students, teachers, alumni, and community members to celebrate the school’s 60-year history and look forward to the future. Pictured are Kolter parents and volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints planting the prairie portion of The Grassroom, including Meg Groesbeck, Danielle Kruger, Sister Hendrix, Sister Lee, Libbie Hill, Rebekah Franz, Stephanie Michell, Elder Webster, Elder Torgerso, Ahlene Shong, Roanna Pinsky, Pilar Hernandez, Ruth Jones, and Kaki Perdue.
