Over the summer, members of Houston Christian High School’s theatre program volunteered at the inaugural theatre program with Spring Spirit, a summer day-camp for children whose purpose is to “provide pathways for youth to realize life opportunities through sports, education, and mentoring programs based on Christian principles.”
It has been a long-time dream of Houston Christian’s director, Robert Linhart, to establish theatre as a part of the program. This year, his dream became a reality.
Members of the Houston Christian theatre department served as counselors to children aged 6-13. Throughout the course of the camp, the counselors aided in the production of a series of vignettes performed by the children all while encouraging and teaching Christian values. The day-camp culminated in a performance of these scenes for the parents of the children along with higher-ups of the Spring Spirit program.
In the end, the Houston Christian theatre department was asked to return in the summer of 2022 to continue exploring the world of theatre with the kids and the word of God.
