Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend

Astros vs. Athletics
The Astros clinched the AL West title last night. This weekend, they play the Athletics, then go into the playoffs. The Astros face the Athletics on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the end of regular season play.
Zoo Boo 2021
Get into the Halloween Spirit at Zoo Boo, a family-friendly fall festival that kicks off on Friday at the Houston Zoo. Enjoy the Spooktacular Scary-Go-Round, the Spooky Train, and lots more activities! Costumes highly encouraged.
Society for the Performing Arts presents Nella
Nella is the 2019 Latin GRAMMY Winner for best New Artist and a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music. On her first North American tour, she will be performing at the Miller Outdoor Theatre this Friday night. The event is free and open to the public.
2021 Komen Houston Race for the Cure
It’s not too late to register for the annual Komen Houston Race for the Cure, happening Saturday morning at 7:45 a.m at Sam Houston Park If you don’t like running, come dressed in pink to cheer on the runners. The race helps spread the lifesaving message of early detection and raises funds to help end breast cancer. You can register online to race in-person or wherever you are. This event is included in the price of admission.
49th Annual Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta
Participants (ages 12 and up) can compete in Texas’ largest canoe and kayak race this Saturday morning at Buffalo Bayou. The starting line is at 7700 San Felipe (just west of Voss), and the finish line is at Allen’s Landing (1019 Commerce Street at Main Street). Day-of registration is $60 and $55 if you register ahead of time. Entry includes t-shirt and lunch (while supplies last) and does not include canoe or kayak.
Barktoberfest 2021
This Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Powder Keg Houston, bring your furry friends and human friends to Barktoberfest. The event is free to attend and open to the public; tickets are available for beer tastings and registration for the dog costume contest. There will also be food trucks, a vendor market, and pet adoptions.
Skeeters vs. Round Rock
On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Skeeters take on Round Rock. On Friday, there will be fireworks after the game. On Saturday, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will get a replica Jose Altuve Jersey. And on Sunday after the game, kids can run the bases.
Rice Owls vs. Southern Miss
On Saturday, the Rice Owls play Southern Miss at Rice Stadium.
