50 years of Open Door
The Open Door Arts and Crafts program of West University Baptist and Crosspoint Church, Bellaire celebrated its 50th anniversary. This program was started in 1971 by the late Aleta O’Neal and women from the Women's Missionary Union of West University Baptist Church. The craft groups, which meet every Tuesday from nine until noon all year, are taught by volunteers. The event was attended by Aleta’s husband, Bobby O’Neal, daughters Stacy O’Neal Pannell and Tami O’Neal Ellis, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Members constructed two planters to present to Bobby O’Neal. Pictured are celebration committee members (from left) Chandra De, Eunice Orchard, Shanthi Pravinkumar, and Robin Phillips. Open Door is open to all and offers a range of classes; the fall semester included fabric painting, cardmaking, stained glass, knitting/crocheting, needlepoint, watercolor painting, and beading.
