The Ice at Discovery Green
Haven't gotten the chance to glide around The Ice at Discovery Green yet? The rink is open through Jan. 30 and this weekend's winter weather is the perfect time to check it out. On Friday, get a "blast from the blast" with Flashback Fridays featuring DJ Mohawk Steve and on Saturday, listen to pop hits by DJ Boris for Skate Party Saturdays. Hops n’ Hot Sauce Festival
Sample spicy Texas goods, enjoy local craft beer, live entertainment, and food trucks at the Hops n’ Hot Sauce Festival at Spindletap Brewery on Saturday. Watch the 6th Annual Hot Pepper Eating Contest and the 4th Annual Pizza de Muerte Eating Challenge. Kids will enjoy the Little Gnome Zone. The silent auction and a portion of ticket sales benefit Addi’s Faith Foundation, a local foundation that raises money to provide support for families who have a child with cancer.
Family Campfire Night
The Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire is hosting a Campfire Night program on Saturday. The a family-friendly event includes hot dogs, s’mores over the campfire, and a guided night hike in the park.
Elton John: Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour
See the legendary musician live in concert at the Toyota Center. Shows are on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Elton John’s show was originally scheduled for June 30-July 1, 2020.
Popovich Comedy Pet Theater
The Russian Cultural Center “Our Texas” presents the world-famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater on the stage at MATCH – Midtown Arts and Theatre Center Houston. Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a family-oriented blend of the unique comedy and acts of juggling by Gregory Popovich, a crew of balancing acrobats, and the talents of his furry costars: dogs and house cats. Each pet in the show has been rescued from animal shelters. Popovich Comedy Pet Theater has been a finalist on “America’s Got Talent,” and has been voted “Best Family Attraction” in Las Vegas and Gregory has been named “Entertainer of the Year.”
Galveston Restaurant Week
Galveston Restaurant Week kicked off this week and is offered through Feb. 13. Dine at a participating restaurant and enjoy a discounted prix fixe menu on the island. Restaurants are collecting charitable donations to be distributed to local community groups; this year’s charities are Galveston Urban Ministries, Access Care of Coastal Texas, and St. Vincent’s House.
