Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! It may be a little chilly, but there are plenty of events to look forward to this weekend:
Houston Rockets vs. Portland Trailblazers at Toyota Center
The Rockets (14-34) face off against the Portland Trailblazers (20-28) Friday at 7 p.m. at the Toyota Center. Tickets start at $15.
Texas Lunar Festival
The 2022 Texas Lunar Festival, hosted by ITC Cultural & Education Foundation, Southern News Group, Chinese New Year Festival Inc., and STV, will be held virtually on Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. It will consist of live performances that will be televised through STV 15.3 local station and online at scdaily.com and through their phone app Southern News TV.
Arbor Day at Houston Arboretum
Join the Houston Arboretum for a fun and free celebration of trees on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy informative booths and tree hikes on their trails, grab a tree craft to make at home, learn about what trees do for us in the Discovery Room, and learn about local tree species from their Botany Display. Program will be held rain or shine, so dress for the weather. Crafts will be available while supplies last.
Lucky Land Houston
Adventure to Lucky Land to experience replicas of some of the most significant historical and cultural sites in China. Bring the family and spend the day exploring. Their Lunar New Year Celebration this weekend takes place on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will include Chinese dances, kung fu, and a magician. Tickets are $5 for children (3-12), $20 for adults (13+), $7 for seniors (65+), and free for those under 3.
Lunar New Year Food Festival
Get a taste of delicious flavors from around the world at this free, two-day family festival at 8th Wonder Brewery. There will be more than 30 food vendors, dozens of beer options, live music, and more. The festival takes place Saturday, 12-10 p.m. and Sunday, 12-8 p.m.
Houston Chamber Choir presents the 22nd annual Hear the Future
The Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, under the direction of founder and artistic director Robert Simpson, presents the 22nd annual Hear the Future invitational choral festival on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of South Main Baptist Church. Each year, the Houston Chamber Choir invites three outstanding school choirs from the Greater Houston area to participate in its invitational choral festival. This is a free community concert. This year’s event includes the Parker Elementary School Advanced Chorus.
Launch Party at Constellation Field
Be the first to see the new look of Sugar Land baseball with an evening complete with great food and drinks, live music from The Skags, fireworks, player autographs, and more! The Launch Party is at Constellation Field on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. Tickets are $1 each and proceeds benefit the Astros Baseball Foundation.
Monster Jam
Monster Jam is the motorsports competition where 12,000-pound trucks and the world-class athletes who drive them tear up the dirt with gravity-defying feats. Engineered to perfection, the legendary Grave Digger, Max-D, Megalodon, and many more push all limits in Freestyle, the Skills Challenge and Racing competitions. Full-throttle family fun! 7 p.m. Saturday at NRG Stadium.
