The River Oaks Garden Club’s 86th Azalea Trail, featuring Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, Rienzi Gardens, the Forum of Civics building, and four residential gardens in River Oaks, takes place March 4-6. This year’s theme, “Back to our Roots…Bringing New Blooms,” goes back to 1935 when the first “Garden Pilgrimage” featured only gardens. In 1936, the pilgrimage became known as the Azalea Trail, and three gardens were opened to display just azaleas. Since azaleas were not native to the area, this was an opportunity to educate the public on azaleas and horticulture that continues today. This year’s trail is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, and tickets are $30 for six admissions or $10 for a single admission. Pictured are event chairs (from left) Molly Vaughan and Molly Lamme.
