Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! It’s officially March, and almost spring break. Here’s what going on this weekend:
86th Azalea Trail
River Oaks Garden Club's 86th Azalea Trail will celebrate the past and welcome the spring. The event kicks off with the annual ribbon cutting at the historical Forum of Civics Building, today at 10:30 a.m. The trail features the famous Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, Rienzi Home and Gardens, The Forum of Civics building, and four residential gardens, and takes place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit the website for ticket info.
Shriners Children's College Classic at Minute Maid Park
Cheer on your favorite college teams this weekend at Minute Maid Park. The 22nd Annual Shriners Children's College Classic returns to Minute Maid Park Friday through Sunday. Each day will have a game at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. Baylor University, the University of Texas, Louisiana State University, University of Oklahoma, the University of California – Los Angeles, and the University of Tennessee will take the field for the nine-game tournament. Daily event tickets (good for all games played that day) start at $20. A three-day Package is also available.
Rice Village Rodeo Roundup
Join Rice Village in celebrating our shared western roots during the free Rice Village Rodeo Roundup event today, 5-8 p.m. Alongside a mechanical bull, and live music, they’ll have plenty of handmade cowboy hats, boots, and other outdoor gear fit for all visitors.
The Rink – Rolling at Discovery Green
Discovery Green’s outdoor roller-skating rink opens today at 5 p.m. Enjoy music by DJ Mohawk Steve and roller derby demonstrations. The first 50 skaters in line skate for free. The Rink will be open for five weeks with weekly theme nights including Cheap Skate Nights and Throwback Thursdays. Tickets are $12 plus tax and must be purchased online. Party at the Pavilion ft. Mango Punch!
This Friday, Bellaire Parks and the City of Bellaire are hosting this free outdoor concert in Bellaire Town Square from 7-9 p.m. The band Mango Punch! will be performing, and the food truck It's A Wrap! will be onsite. Personal coolers are
RodeoHouston
RodeoHouston opened this Monday, which means it’s time to put on your cowboy boots and watch some of the country’s best cowboys and girls rope and ride at NRG Park. Rodeo events will include all the classics, like bull riding, barrel racing, and the always-entertaining calf scramble. And of course, after the rodeo, you’ve got your choice of entertainment at their live concerts. You can catch Ricky Martin at the Rodeo this Friday, followed by Jon Pardi on Saturday, and Los Tucanes de Tijuana on Sunday. Get tickets here.
Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta 50th Anniversary
The Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta presented by Gillman Subaru turns 50 on Saturday! Paddlers have the chance to make history as the largest canoe and kayak race in Texas observes this milestone year. Participants, ages 12 and up, are invited to race along a 15-mile-long stretch of Buffalo Bayou in support of the revitalization of this historic Houston waterway. Registration is $55 per paddler and $60 on the day of the race. The starting line will be at 7700 San Felipe St., just west of Voss. Spectators are invited to cheer at the starting point and along the race route from 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. At the finish line at Allen’s Landing (1019 Commerce St.), there will be hundreds of colorful canoes and kayaks, music, fun and activities.
Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies at Toyota Center
The Houston Rockets (15-46) face off against the Memphis Grizzlies (43-20) Sunday at 6 p.m. This Sunday is an International Women’s Day Celebration Presented by AT&T, featuring the Ladies Night Out Package, which includes 1 ticket to the game and 2 beverages (wine, bud light seltzer, or water).
