Happy Friday and happy Memorial Day weekend! There's lots going on around town this holiday weekend, including:
Memorial Weekend at Lone Star Flight Museum
The Lone Star Flight Museum is offering special activities, tours, and exhibits for all ages this weekend, including Howard 250 Tours, crafts for little pilots, hangar talks, and more.
Monarch Chamber Players’ Memorial Day Concert
Monarch’s woodwind quintet will perform a free Memorial Day-themed program at Peggy Shiffick Park, Friday, 7-8 p.m. Repertoire will include patriotic classics, American folk tunes, and ragtime favorites composed by Scott Joplin. Bring a chair or blanket and refreshments to enjoy during the concert.
Family Movie Night at Levy Park
Family Movie Night, sponsored by Texas Children’s Hospital, presents Sing 2 (PG) on Friday, 8:30 p.m. Snacks and beverages, including beer and wine, are available from Side Dough an hour prior to the movie through the end of the show. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are available to-go from Woodshed Smokehouse or reserve a table (call 346-718-6110) to watch the movie from their patio.
Motown & More Show at Miller Outdoor Theatre
The Motown & More Show’s Funky Good Time will be a funk-filled celebration of sweet soul music featuring some of Houston’s finest entertainers and the smoking Bacement Band. The free show takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Friday and Saturday, 8:30 p.m.
Memorial Day Ceremony at San Jacinto Memorial Park Funeral Home
Join San Jacinto Memorial Park Funeral Home for their annual Memorial Day event, Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. Light food and refreshments will be served. RSVP at 713-453-2711 to have your veteran added to the Honor Roll Call.
Memorial Day Weekend at Memorial City Mall
Memorial City Mall is offering activies throughout the weekend. On Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Stilt-walker, balloon art, and more family-friendly activities. Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: VFW Spring Branch Poppy Drive and face-painting. Monday, 5-7 p.m.: VFW Spring Branch Poppy Drive, live music, and family-friendly activities.
The International Festival at Discovery Green
Learn about a variety of cultures at The International Festival USA at Discovery Green on Saturday, 1-8 p.m. The free festival promotes world peace.
Asian Night Market at Railway Heights
Enjoy Asian street food, live entertainment, traditional gowns, lion dancing, and more at the Asian Night Market held at Railways Heights Market, Saturday and Sunday, 2-10 p.m. both days.
Houston Food Fest
Houston Food Fest, held at Midtown Park, offers a wide variety of food from more than 50 food vendors – tacos, gumbo, ice cream, vegan burgers, BBQ, and more. Local bands will be performing all day plus there will be fun activities for all ages. The festival takes place at Midtown Park, Saturday, 2-10 p.m. Tickets: $9; kids 8 and under are free.
Buzzfest 2022
Buzzfest 2022 at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion features Papa Roach, Seether, Bush, The HU, Dead Sara, and 10 Years. Gates open at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the show begins at 2:30 p.m. Lawn tickets: $34.50; general admission $129.50.
Bellaire Open Air x HTX Market X Bark in the Park
Bring your dog to the park on Sunday, 12-4 p.m., for Bark in the Park as the Bellaire dog ordinance is lifted at Evelyn's Park for this one day. Bellaire Open Air will be hosted by HTX Markets offering an outdoor shopping experience with goodies from local artisans and small businesses for the whole family. In addition to the monthly artisan and small business market, the market will include dog vendors and rescue organizations.
8th Wonder's The Gr8 Taco Challenge
8th Wonder Brewery is holding its fifth annual The Gr8 Taco Challenge on Sunday, 12-4 p.m. Teams will compete for best tacos, including a People's Choice category. Taste tacos and enjoy live music. Ticket options range from $35-88. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Kids' Meals, Inc.
Memorial Day in The Woodlands
The annual Memorial Day in The Woodlands festival pays tribute to all servicemen and women who lost their lives while serving the U.S. The event, held on Sunday, 5-9 p.m. at Town Green Park, includes live music, children’s activities, strolling entertainment, and a fireworks display choreographed to a patriotic soundtrack. A care package drop-off booth will be available onsite to accept donations of recommended items to be shipped to the troops. The festival is free to attend.
Houston Dash vs. North Carolina Courage
Houston Dash will take on North Carolina Courage at PNC Stadium, Sunday, 6 p.m. for the Dash's second home game of the season. Tickets: $12+
Memorial Day 10K & 5K
Honor the men and women who gave their lives serving in the U.S. Military at this 10K, 5K and Kids K run event on Monday. The 10K and 5K start at 7:30 a.m.; kids K starts at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $50 for 10K; $40 for 5K. There is also a family walk option. The event takes place at St. Thomas High School; find the course map here.
Memorial Day Ceremony at Houston National Cemetery
The 2022 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony will be the first public Memorial Day ceremony at Houston National Cemetery since 2019. The keynote speaker is Phillip Blackmon, host of the Phillip Blackmon Show. The ceremony takes place on Monday at 9 a.m.; attendees are encouraged to arrive early due to limited parking and seating.
Memorial Day at Buffalo Soldier Museum
Celebrate Memorial Day at the Buffalo Soldier Museum on Monday, 12-4 p.m., with tours, photos with troopers, Living History performances, a DJ, kids’ activities, and a supply drive for Ukraine. Free but must RSVP to attend.
