Chess champs
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School vice principal Scott Kloesel, students Jeff-Angelo Alesna, Rachel Curry, Nathanial Curry, Khang Le, and principal Carolyn Sears (pictured, from left) celebrate the students’ big wins at the 2022 state and national chess championships. The chess team competed and won first place in the Texas State Scholastic Chess Championship, in the middle-school championship section. Next, the students headed to Grapevine, TX for the national championship where they competed against 931 competitors from 35 states. The team brought home a trophy for placing fifth out of 20 final teams, and Khang also placed 14th and received an individual medal.
