Kali Lang and Sam Raphael

Kali Lang and Sam Raphael (pictured, from left) celebrated with their families after their engagement on Town Lake in Austin. The debate continues about how the couple met in 2018. On a warm September night, Kali, who lived in Washington, DC, was having dinner with her parents Linda and Michael Lang at La Griglia. They spotted their friend Suzy Landa, and within minutes Suzy knew she had the perfect match for Kali with her best friend’s son, Sam Raphael, who also lived in Washington, DC. Sam’s mom, Lynne Raphael, phoned him with the promising news, but the wheels were already in motion for them to meet. Only a few days before, Kali teasingly asked her college friend, Graham Shuping, if he knew of any tall, single men in DC. To her surprise, his best friend Sam checked the box. By the time Lynne had called Sam, he was already setting up their first date. It took Kali halfway through a pitcher of cheap beer to make the double matchmaking connection, while Sam had known all along.
