Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! There's lot of summery, family-friendly activities in Houston this weekend, from the Children's Museum to Levy Park. Here's what's happening:
Summer Symphony Nights
The Summer Symphony returns to Miller’s Outdoor Theatre this Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. These fun-filled, family-friendly evenings showcase outstanding local, national, and international soloists and conductors alongside the outstanding musicians that make up your orchestra. All performances are Miller Outdoor Theatre are free.
Tanabata Japanese Star Festival
This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Children’s Museum will celebrate the Tanabata, or Japanese Star Festival. As legend is told in Japanese culture, two star-crossed lovers, Vega and Altair, are separated by the Milky Way. They are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. However, the Museum will celebrate on July 9th. Activities will include Japanese storytelling and arts and crafts including Origami and Tanzaku. Tickets are $15 for adults and children.
Second Saturday at Sawyer Yards
Enjoy a relaxed Saturday at Sawyer Yards from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as artists open their studios to the public to showcase their work ranging from jewelry to sculptures, as well as some clothing and textile pieces. Try unique artisan inspired food, which will be showcased and available for purchase as part of the free event.
Road to River Revival
Jam to live music this Saturday at Market Square Park to count down to Texas’ camping and music festival, River Revival. Feel the blues take control with soulful instrumental band, Tamar and the FC’s and electric cumbia band, Gio Chamba. This is the final Road to River Revival event before the festival itself. ‘Doors’ open at 6:30 pm and live music begins at 7:30 pm.
Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas
See the Houston Dynamo take on FC Dallas at PNC Stadium this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $26.
Summer Block Parties at Levy Park
You can bring the whole family for Sunday’s Summer Block Party from 5-7 p.m. at Levy Park, presented by Texas Children’s Hospital. This free event at the Event Pavilion will include live music from the band JoiLux, bubble stations, games, and children’s activities.
Galveston Family Beach Challenge
Galveston is turning East Beach into a gigantic free obstacle course this Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., allowing families to compete in life-size versions of classic games. The course includes 14 stations for kids and adults including eight new stations this year, including a bean bag game, a life-size battleship game, limbo, volley balloon, giant Connect Four and more.
