Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! It's the first official weekend of fall and, although it may not *feel* like fall, there's plenty of fall fun happening around town. Here are some highlights:
Karbach Brewing’s 10th Karbachtoberfest
Cheers to 10 years of Karbach’s popular Karbachtoberfest, which kicks off this weekend! The brewery is hosting three weekends packed full of fun activities and Karbachtoberfest seasonal brew. Look forward to DJ sets, live music, Wiener Dog Races, and more, Friday-Sunday, starting this weekend.
“Family” Produced by ROCO
Join ROCO as its 18th season kicks off with “Family,” part of the Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation In Concert Series. The performance at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Friday at 8 p.m., features the full 40-piece chamber orchestra led by Artistic Partner Mei-Ann Chen, in a program inspired by community, family, and hope, honoring Houston’s cultural diversity.
19th Annual Run in the Park
Hermann Park Conservancy’s Run in the Park, powered by Reliant, is back for its 19th year. Runners can choose to attend the in-person race on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. or run (or walk) from home, virtually, to support the conservation efforts of the Conservancy. Routes include a 5K, 10K, and 1K kids’ route. The event starts and ends at the Molly Ann Smith Plaza, near the Jones Reflection Pool, and includes a post-run party with food, drinks, and music.
Nature Connects Made with LEGO Bricks at Houston Botanic Garden: Opening Day Festival
Sean Kenney's Nature Connects Made with LEGO Bricks, an award-winning exhibition that uses whimsical works of art made from simple toy blocks to explore the balance of ecosystems and mankind’s relationship with nature, is coming to the Houston Botanic Garden, Sept. 24 through Feb. 19, 2023. To mark opening day this Saturday, there will be a special Family Festival, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. also celebrating the Garden’s second birthday, including food, games, and nature activities. General admission: $10 for children ages 3-15 and students with a valid ID; $15 for adults.
Take Me Outdoors Houston
Texas Parks and Wildlife hosts its 12th annual free, family outdoors festival, Take Me Outdoor Houston, at Discovery Green. There will be hands-on, educational activities for animal and nature lovers on Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Bayou Bucket: Houston Cougars vs. Rice Owls
The Bayou Bucket - the Coogs vs. the Owls - takes place on Saturday, 5 p.m. Cheer on your favorite team as these rivals take to the field at TDECU Stadium.
Houston Dash vs. OL Reign Houston Dash
The Houston Dash take on Seattle’s OL Reign at PNC Stadium on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $12.
Bayou City Jazz Celebration
The Bayou City Jazz Celebration produced by Jazz Houston features the Jazz Houston Orchestra, renowned vocalist Belinda Munro, and acclaimed pianist and Houstonian based in New York City, Helen Sung. Houston has produced a number of important contributors to jazz throughout its history, and this program features the music of some of our most dynamic artists including Illinois Jacquet, Arnett Cobb, The Crusaders, and others. The Bayou City Jazz Celebration takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Saturday, 8 p.m.
FotoFest Biennial 2022 Grand Opening
The FotoFest Biennial 2022 kicks off this weekend and continues through Nov. 6 at Sawyer Yards and throughout the city of Houston. Join to celebrate the grand opening of the FotoFest Biennial 2022 exhibition If I Had a Hammer on Saturday evening at Silver Street Studios. Meet the artists, curators, and team behind the Biennial while enjoying refreshments and live music, while also being among the first visitors to see artworks by artists who are redefining contemporary photographic and image-based art.
